RIU Palace Pacifico Riviera Nayarit

On a recent visit to Puerto Vallarta I was fortunate enough to visit RIU’s 3 properties in Riviera Nayarit. The newest of the 3, the Palace Pacifico is a five star property that makes you feel like you are royalty. It is a sleek modern resort. The marble used throughout the hotel is both beautiful and kept spotless. As with other RIU properties it is on the larger side however not large enough that it cannot be easily walked. The pool is very large with a swim up bar and a number of chairs to accommodate everyone. The beach is wide with golden soft sand and is good for swimming. There are 4 specialty restaurants and 1 buffet available so no need to worry about having one restaurant to eat at for the length of your stay. Rooms are kept immaculate and have modern amenities with mini bar and liquor dispensers so you can enjoy a relaxing drink on your balcony while watching the sunset. Also for those coffee lovers every other floor has a coffee vending machine that allows you to select several gourmet coffees with or without sugar at no extra cost. Overall a great value for an upscale resort. If your wanting to treat yourself to a little more than a budget resort this is a great option.

Travelling During Hurricane Season

Many of us know that the typical hurricane season for areas like Mexico, the Caribbean, Florida and other coastal US states is from June 1 to November 30, with “peak” season from August to October. And since Mother Nature does not follow any calendar hurricanes have occasionally occurred outside of these six months. However, from May to November prices for some of these destinations such as Mexico and the Caribbean drop significantly making it so tempting that we forget that all mighty powerful “H” word. So how does one try to plan a vacation during hurricane season or should one plan a vacation at all during hurricane season? There are a number of factors that come into play when making a decision on whether or not to travel during these months. Each person’s situation will be different and may hinge on work schedules, school schedules ect. There is no reason to avoid this travel period completely and here are a few simple steps that will help you decide if and when to take your vacation during hurricane season.

First off, you need to access your risk tolerance:

  • Not even going to touch a hurricane area during “peak” months with a ten foot pole
  • I think I’ll go, but carefully pick my destination and travel period
  • Yep I’ll go as long as I have insurance and weather guarantees from the resort/tour company
  • Count me in, the odds of having good weather are decent

Then once you have found your comfort level:

  • Research your intended destination to see how frequent hurricanes have been
  • Check to see what type of weather protection guarantees are offered
  • Make sure to purchase travel insurance
  • Find out from your resort/tour rep what procedures are in place in the case of a hurricane

Then sit back ,cross your fingers and enjoy your vacation to the fullest.
